Laurie Laybourn, Executive Director of the Strategic Climate Risks Initiative, joined a Times Radio Drive panel with Baroness Brown (Julia King) of the Climate Change Committee and NFU deputy president Paul Tompkins to discuss this summer's heatwaves, drought, and the government's possible retreat from net zero. Laybourn argued that the biggest national security threats facing the UK in recent years have come not from hostile states, but from the accelerating consequences of climate change - and warned that Britain remains dangerously underprepared for impacts already being felt this summer.
